The 1887 Delta Gamma Convention voted to set aside March 15 (or a date as close as possible) as a national Reunion Day for chapters; the idea was greeted with enthusiasm and put into immediate practice. Everyone who was able to participate returned to her chapter for a sentimental reunion with old friends.
By 1946, Founders Day replaced Reunion Day in the DG Constitution and Bylaws as a way to remember Delta Gamma’s Founders, Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd, and Mary Comfort Leonard.
As alumnae groups grew in size and number, alumnae planned luncheons to celebrate Founders Day; when possible, collegians were invited to join alumnae and to introduce new initiates.
While Founders Day celebrations vary by association, Founders Day is a time for recognition and awards, both individual and chapter. It has become a time for connection and reunion.
